Wireless charging - the future for electric cars

It's electric, and like all battery-operated automobiles needs regular charging. "The charging is done wirelessly, you park up, turn off the key and voila... charging starts automatically," says Anthony Thomson, CEO of HaloIPT, a UK company that has installed the technology. The process uses electromagnetic induction to transfer power from a pad built into the ground to another installed in the bottom of the car. The system could be installed in a supermarket parking place, garage floor or the ground at a special charging station. When a driver parks the vehicle, the two pads line up and with a flick of a switch, the charging starts.

Texas executes 9/11 'revenge' killer

A man who embarked on a shooting spree in what he claimed was retaliation for 9/11 has been executed at a prison in Texas. The lone survivor of Mark Stroman's attack on convenience store workers in late 2001, Rais Bhuiyan, originally from Bangladesh, unsuccessfully sued to stop the execution, saying his religious beliefs as a Muslim required him to forgive the man. Stroman claimed the shooting spree that killed two men and injured a third targeted people from the Middle East, though all three victims were from south Asia. It was the death of 49-year-old Vasudev Patel, from India, that put Stroman on death row. Stroman's execution was the eighth this year in Texas.

Mac OS X Lion pounces

As promised, Apple let Mac OS X Lion out of its cage this morning. Version 10.7 of the operating system has more than 250 new features, Apple said, but an installation disc isn't one of them: it's available today for $29.99 as a 3.49GB download only. Apple enjoys pushing the computing industry into the future by dropping technology it deems to be from the past-for example floppy drives missing from the first iMac-and those who want a real-world copy of the OS will have to wait until Apple releases it on a USB thumb drive next month for $69. The Mac OS X download, available through the Mac App Store, dovetails with Apple's new MacBook Air and Mac Mini Lion-based computers. These new models are updated with Intel's modern Sandy Bridge processors and a high-speed Thunderbolt data transfer port-and none has a DVD drive for the next OS upgrade.

Google+ For iPhone Now The Top Free App In iTunes

Google+ for iPhone hit Apple's App Store a mere 24 hours ago but it's being downloaded like wildfire as it currently sitting atop the heap as the most popular free app available from iTunes. This is big news considering Google+ is still invitation-only and only has 18 million users so far, compared to Facebook's 750 million. That said, Google+ users can now upload contacts from Outlook and Mac address books (not Facebook, though), which may result in even bigger Google+ adoption numbers.

Steve Jobs dismisses rumors of his successor

Apple CEO and cancer survivor Steve Jobs is not keen on discussing speculation about who will replace him when the inevitable happens. This week, the Wall Street Journal reported that the company's board of directors have been discussing plans about who will take over the position that has been held by Jobs since the late 1990s, and perhaps the title that some will always bestow upon Jobs and Jobs alone, once the man is no longer able to hold the position himself. The Journal said it had credible information that the board has already been meeting with headhunters and "at least one head of a high-profile technology company."

Samsung used the technology fair in Berlin (IFA) to present its product range ATIV (VITA, 'life' in Latin, backwards). For now have two laptops (ATIV Smart PC Smart PC Pro), tablet (ATIV Tab) and, above all, a smartphone Windows Phone 8 (ATIV S). Still do not know when will be available or how much each model.

However, the company itself which released the technical specifications of this handset, which will have a Super AMOLED HD screen 4.8-inch shockproof (Corning Gorilla Glass 2).

Furthermore, the device, 8.7 millimeters thick and 135 grams, will feature a dual core processor at 1.5 Ghz, 1 GB of RAM and two cameras: a rear 8 MP with LED flash and a Front 1.9.

When you reach the market, it will be possible to acquire two phone models, one with 16GB of storage and one with 32GB. No one knows what the price difference between them, but in any case, both models can use MicroSD cards to increase storage.

"Samsung did a phenomenal job to get the best and latest technology in the S ATIV" said Ben Rudolph, Microsoft evangelist (and creator of Windows Phone challenge). "Despite having a 4.8 inch screen, which makes the S ATIV one of the largest mobile market, it gives the feeling of being so great."

This, according to Rudolph, is due to how thin the device is, in its way (which makes it comfortable to hold) and weight. "It's solid, but not heavy and is perfectly balanced to not be tired by hand."

Meanwhile, the tablet introduced the Korean company will use the RT version of Windows 8 and will have a 10.1 inch screen (slightly smaller than the Surface, but higher than that of the iPad).

ATIV Tab also has two cameras (5 and 1.9 megapixels), LED flash and NFC. Your weight will be 570 grams and its thickness of only 8.9 millimeters. Its processor is 1.5 GHz (dual core) and has 2 GB of RAM.

This tablet will be available in both 32 and 64 GB, but also can increase storage MicroSD card (up to 64GB). Also, come with Microsoft Office installed.

Almost not a week goes by in which we do not know anything about the growing capabilities of 3D printing. Oblivious to the majority of the population, this way of producing objects has gone from being a geek toy to take center stage in the industries. An example is the auto industry, which alternates between building quietly building parts or entire cars to go testing this new production model. Areion is a tacit demonstration of the first electric car built by a 3D printer and here's how it is and what has details.

While I violently fondled each, while shouting expletives caught and ended by declaring the worst invention of the computer, an inner voice telling me calm: do not underestimate that in the future could be very important, and print with a gun which avenge your anger. And so, except that I'm still alive. A few weeks ago we showed how a 3D printer was used to create a functional weapon, realizing the level of accuracy they have. We also saw the first or one of the first cars manufactured by 3D printing, called Urbee. Planes, nanometer precision and it is now the turn of Areion, the first electric car built by 3D printing and want to know what you think.

The car in question is built in Belgium by a group of engineering students called Formula Group T and main characteristic is its non-industrial origin. No lifting or cutting, or molding, or forging, or assembly lines, the Areion is printed using a 3D printer of considerable size. To feel that this is not a toy filled with stickers, this electric car is a car racing a little over two meters long and weighing 280 kg is so light, is making highs 0-100 in 3.2 seconds and achieve a top speed of 141 km / h. The "fault" this is what your engine of 115 horsepower (a quarter of what it normally has a conventional race car).

With zero carbon dioxide emissions, the electric car is powered by 3D printing by a motor of 85 kW polymer battery voltage 50 watt. Treatment aerodynamic chassis tweaks and some carbon dual suspension titanium stud. The Areion, target of a project to be built a car for a race nonprofessional weekend created a niche that could generate more interest and see some serious competition, both speed and technique and innovation with 3D printing. And yes. It seems that in the future we say among us: "I have wanted for a career, imprímete a car and get out to the velodrome."

Imagine a camera with a 4.8 inch screen, a quad-core processor and equipped with Jelly Bean, the latest version of Android? And it also has a 16-megapixel sensor and an optical zoom of 21 increases touch? Well that's exactly the camera that introduced the Korean Samsung at IFA Berlin.

Called Samsung Galaxy Camera and, so to speak, it is as if they had joined in one device an Android mobile phone with a camera high performance. All you can do is talk camera, but everything will come ...

From the screen, HD Super Clear LCD, you can view, of course, the pictures we make, but you can also download and manage, as a smartphone, any application to the Android store. The camera also connects directly to the internet both through wifi and mobile networks, both 3G and 4G.

This means that we can immediately send the photos to do any social network or email, or store them in Dropbox oline or similar sites. Of course, we can also edit images instantly, which is easy with the large size of the screen and a list of up to 35 editing tools incorporating the camera.

The optical zoom of 21 increases GALAXY Camera can be controlled by the button or using the touch screen and allows you to take remote photographs with stunning quality while optical image stabilization ensures absolute clarity and sharpness. The BSI CMOS sensor of 16 megapixels and 1/2, 3 inches displays images with high brightness and color resolution, while the 23mm wide-angle and take pictures unthinkable in the cameras of smartphones.

Remember Watson? No Sherlock wizard, but the artificial intelligence system developed by IBM that swept the ground with the greatest champions of the game Jeopardy!. Today Watson aims to apply its capacity on financial processes and cancer studies, however, IBM has not stood idly by. The next step is Watson 2.0, an advanced version that allows use in smartphones and other mobile devices. The technical challenges are enormous, but something similar was said about Watson at the time, and we have seen what he did.

I have personally seen the confrontation between Watson, Brad Rutter and Ken Jennings in the special challenge of Jeopardy! half a dozen times. Although Watson was not free from gross errors (Toronto is not a city in the United States, for example) their performance was relentless. But what happened after that? What is Watson doing today, and what will be tomorrow? According to information available, both Citigroup and Wellpoint have made use of their abilities, while the plan remains primary market related technology. But there is more, and that Watson is no longer a system as any. Can be optimized in many aspects, including reduced power consumption, and of course, miniaturization. With the latter in mind, IBM Watson wants to see running on smartphones, and other mobile devices.

The current Watson can not do that, but Watson 2.0 itself. The Vice President of Innovation Bernie Meyerson IBM stated that the level of energy required to operate at Watson is "falling like a stone", a detail that will eventually enable the possibility of a mobile version. To better visualize this, imagine a Watson in smartphones as a supercharged version of Siri. The staff care system Apple became an icon in Cupertino products, but studies that locate their effectiveness below 70 percent. Watson can not afford it, especially if they seek to tempt the business environment. To do this, Watson 2.0 will incorporate "senses" through voice recognition and images.

One of the most important challenges to be faced by IBM engineers in processing power and energy consumption locally. Today Watson relies on a hardware equivalent to six thousand desktops, quite far to the average of four cores on a smartphone there. Although Watson process their results through the cloud, the resources required by an application that supports smartphones and tablets would still be too high. To this is added the process of "learning" to be submitted to Watson, but it's all a matter of time. If IBM Watson wants to turn our personal assistant for mobile devices, is because it should be within reach.

Curiosity. It seems that all the media activities of NASA, at least for the remainder of this year, will have something to do with this robotic probe, and no wonder, since the mission has been a success. In the last hours are no new developments, particularly related to high-resolution images sent to our planet and its contents. And there have been some "frivolous", probably designed to attract younger people, such as the transmission from Mars for the song "Reach for the Stars" by Will.i.am.

As stated in the title of this short summary, the Curiosity robot never rests. Since arriving at Mars has continued to give satisfaction to the U.S. space agency, without encountering major problems or setbacks. In recent days this robot has transmitted to Earth high resolution images of the Martian surface, with a level of detail well enough to reveal, among other things, the presence of hydrated minerals.

On August 23, when Curiosity took the now famous image of the area southwest of descent point to calibrate their cameras all knew that what we were seeing in the next few days would be awesome. And the robot will not let us down. The photograph below, which shows the aspect of the base of Mount Sharp, is simply spectacular. They appreciate a disparate series of rows around the base of this mountain that rises in Gale crater, Curiosity site that dropped on August 6.

One of the last images received, taken with the camera and a telephoto MastCam 100 mm, showing what could be a geological unconformity on the slopes of Mount Sharp. This is an area where mineral deposits are observed that only form in the presence of water, while the highest areas lacking these elements. Sediments are clearly at a different angle to those found below, something common in places with volcanic or tectonic activity.

Obviously, NASA needs support and funds to operate, and that requires them to carry out also some actions that do not fall precisely within what one might consider a "huge science forward." For example, in what is recognized as an attempt to attract younger look to the work of NASA and its missions, on Tuesday issued Curiosity-broadcast live from Mars-the song "Reach for the Stars" the American musician Grammy award winner will.i.am. During transmission, the team responsible for this mission went into a trance orgasmic set, with her arms raised and eyes glazed.

The song arranged especially for this event, whose letter says "I know Mars could be away but love is not so far away", was interpreted by an orchestra of over forty instruments, since the artist "did not want another song made on a computer "was first transmitted to Earth from Mars. "I wanted to show the human collaboration with an orchestra there to have something that would last over time, that would be appreciated by different cultures, which did not have the rhythm of hip hop or dance music," he said.

As you can see, NASA must balance between the scientific side of this mission, which cost about 2,500 million, and the related marketing, the funds necessary to continue to flow. Soon we will have news, surely more shocking photographs to see before the Curiosity begins to scroll to the slopes of Mount Sharp, site that will address during the coming weeks and months.

Since MTV became the refuge for the reality show characters as quirky as frivolous and music became merely a background for some advertising, YouTube became the place for the presentation of music. That's where we now know many of the artists knew that before on TV, but YouTube has not yet taken advantage of this new way to discover music and so must come as Seevl tools to give new Encare the matter.

Youtube is not only the recycling center of thousands and millions of home videos of kittens doing tricks in front of the cameras of their owners, but has become the animator evenings as the DJ on duty through the computer. Yes Play music through YouTube is a more frequent and has been the way in which many people not only put environment birthdays, reunions and other circumstances, but also serves to meet new artists. As YouTube does not have this feature and did not want to implement God knows why, Seevl loaded shoulder the task and presents a new way to discover music in YouTube.

The system is presented Seevl we might expect from a Chrome extension and works through a sidebar that is positioned to the right of the video (at the height of recommended videos, for example) and from there gives us indications on the song and the artist that we are currently listening to. In turn, has a division into categories of information presented that shows the activity of the band, the origin, which has had collaborations with other famous (featurings), genres that usually circular, the instruments, the label with which they signed and more that you may be interested to know when an artist. In fact, through the YouTube search bar you can find each of these data separately, for example you can find a group of artists from a particular time or a particular gender. You can even find some that play a particular instrument. This is specific to Seevl.

But the description does not end there, and that is their main feature is to provide a recommendation system based on your tastes as you've exposed on YouTube or Facebook (requires login and acceptance of terms of use). For example, on Facebook I declare that I like Korn, and then I recommended Seevl a video of a band with a similar genre or Korn or even mentions some new Korn video, like maybe a live show. Thus are woven networks of association between your tastes, your favorite bands and bands that are known. In fact, you have an option to automatically generate a playlist with all recommended. Seevl This is one of those extensions for Chrome I test, recommend and leave installed.

"When you grow up travel in airships to work" our grandparents said, and still today we wipe your ass with a toilet roll nineteenth. However there are areas where it is manifesting itself that we are close to that we saw in movies, as the case of Google Glasses and everything concerning augmented reality. Now we learn the new patent giant's Mountain View, Seeing With Your Hand. The glove is a minicomputer Google for augmented reality in our hands, and here we tell you how little is known of this invention is still very green.

The future is coming little by little. In truth, comes to milliseconds. But I mean in terms of available technology and developments in the thought that since childhood. Google Glass showed the world a video and everything was turned about augmented reality and interaction. He brought quite a stir as innovative device itself, but also moved imaginations about what other devices could interact with these futuristic glasses. The day arrived. It all began on August 21, when Google took the patent to which he called "Seeing with your hand." For anyone who has not seen the prospectus, the name can be quite strange, but coming from Google and some of his ideas for the near future and can go imagining. The glove in question is described as an accessory that has cameras in the section of the fingertips, with gyroscope, compass, accelerometer and other motion detectors integrated with the rest of the hand.

Of course not end there this glove composition of Google, but at the height of the palm find a CPU, RAM and storage unit, with the ability to communicate LAN. While lifting the jaw finish floor, we tell you everything that's on a glove and still not begin to make predictions about what they could do with this glove. For example, cameras can be used to make tiny worlds and show zooms through Google Glass , and also to serve as Minority Report keyboards with the addition of some sort of projection or read in real time, for example, plates of paper or rubber with print, like a keyboard. Communication Glove internet, computers and even other gloves is also covered.

The patent also can read the Seeing with Your hand also could control virtual interfaces through gestures, which besides being something that any fan of science fiction dream, is a possibility ever closer thanks to the speed wireless transfer and improvements in processors that handle converting gestures into commands. As a patent is not a patent application to be understood that these gloves Google have a possible future, but today we do not have any details on when or how, nor have a sample of their physical existence beyond the image presented above. However this does not deprive us of putting our minds to work and think about utilities, capabilities and potential alternative technologies that could serve both as complementation or supplementation of these gloves augmented reality. From here, and as a thought exercise, I suggest putting your imagination and intelligence to discover and share applications and functions for a glove like these.
