String Quintet robotic melodies composed and performed independently

What we see on the video is the latest installment of Wilfried Stoll, the staging of a string quintet robot capable of composing and performing songs for themselves. A proposal that comes to say that not only humans can compose music.

The installation was made possible with the help of the engineering company Festo. A system that writes music after hearing a musician play melodies on a xylophone or a MIDI keyboard.

By using standards derived from the mathematician John Conway game, Game of Life, the computer is able to create a re-interpretation of the melody breaking it down into different parts for each instrument. Then, the processed signal is transmitted to the robotic strings.

A facility for the sole purpose of demonstrating how a manual system can be replaced by a network of autonomous robots. Will it the future of music by the development of robotic band?
