Although Google claims to the quality of its free email service Gmail, the platform is not free to have problems from time to time. Moreover, in recent weeks and there have been two incidents (some time ago we told you about 5% of the messages sent through the mail account from Google were experiencing delays). The case is the second incidence occurred yesterday afternoon and left without access to Gmail to less than 10% of users. A vague figure provided by Google, but in plain numbers could mean up to 26 million customers who stayed for a few hours offline.

For several hours yesterday afternoon Gmail service was cut to the users. The news was transmitted very quickly through social networks like Twitter and Facebook, with the realization that users could not access their accounts as normal. Google announced that it was aware of the problem and was investigating the possible reasons that had led to this situation. At first, it was said from the company that the glitch affected only 2% of email users. However, a few minutes later the figure was less than 10% of all users who have Gmail in the world. The problem also found in both free accounts like Gmail in the enterprise application platform for Google Apps.

An hour after his first statement, Google announced that it had resolved the problem, announcing that yes, some users may experience delays in sending messages until normal access to the accounts to be restored in full. The company, however, did not explain the causes of the mistake he had made no connection to more than twenty million customers of the service. Although this explanation could be given below, upon termination of the investigation of the problem, it is safest for us to be without knowing the real causes.

Behind this problem lies the fierce battle that carried out by companies to ensure service uptime. Gmail has always boasted of having very high levels of availability. Last year, for example, reached levels of 99.9% availability over time. Perhaps because of this, Google has considered this problem as a "disruption" of the service and not a fall. A quite controversial decision taking into account the number of users who have been affected by this fall. The percentages of Gmail they will continue in that barrier of 99.99%, but the image of the company has suffered a setback between the affected users, and also among the media that gather the news. Yes, it is appreciated that the company moved quickly to fix this fault and return to restore service.
